ASI beats up sadhu to death

The police have arrested an ASI for allegedly beating a sadhu to death in Ajnala on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Attar Singh. He was posted at Mohkampura police station.

The police rushed the victim to the Civil Hospital from where he was referred to the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar. Later, the victim succumbed.

The police have registered a case under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC. Amritsar Rural Police chief Parampal Singh said the law would take its own course and nobody was above law.

According to the information, sadhus from all over the country came to pay obeisance at the temple on the occasion of Maghi. Preliminary probe indicated that the victim came in front of the ASI’s car. The cop was heavily drunk and started beating sadhu who sustained injuries on his face, head and ribs. Locals said the ASI was shouting that the victim was a spy.

  • The victim, who had come to pay obeisance at a temple in Ajnala, reportedly came in front of the ASI’s car. 
  • Sources say the cop, Attar Singh, was heavily drunk and badly beat up the sadhu, calling him a spy. The victim later succumbed to his injuries.
