Family with newborn pulled out of car stranded in river

JALANDHAR: A family of five with a newborn baby was rescued from a car stuck in the middle of a raging river on the Khuralgarh Road in Hoshiarpur on Monday, as the state witnesses floods in various parts.

A family of five with a newborn baby was rescued from a car stuck in the middle of a raging river on the Khuralgarh Road in Hoshiarpur on Monday, as the state witnesses floods in various parts.  

The family was on its way from a hospital when torrential rain forced their car into the river. A passerby who spotted them immediately alerted villagers for them to be rescued.

The car is still stuck in the raging waters.

Two other incidents involving minibuses were also reported from the district. 

The state as well as the region has been witnessing torrential rain, with more predicted.

Punjab is currently on red alert, with disaster response teams as well as the Army on standby.
