Nabha jailbreak accused held

The Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) today claimed to have arrested gangster Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi Kaura, who was wanted in the Nabha jail break case.

An accomplice of Vicky Gounder, his name was also figured in a Tarn Taran gang war between accomplices of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and the Davinder Bambiha gang that had claimed the life of a gangster while leaving another seriously injured in August 2016.

The police said he was also instrumental in releasing gangster Harry Chatha from the police custody around two years ago. He was wanted in many criminal cases including attempt to murder, gang war, abduction, drug peddling etc.

Following the encounter of Vicky Gounder and Prema Lahoria, the Punjab Police had shifted their focus on other criminals, including Harry Chatha, Gopi Ghanshyampuri, Gopi Kaura and Jaipal who were on top of the list of the police department.

Sources in the ATS said a case regarding his arrest was registered in State Special Operation Cell. The police recovered a pistol with a live cartridge from his possession. They said the police had been collecting details of cases registered against him in various districts in Punjab.

Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, IG, ATS, said the investigations were under progress following his arrest. He said the police had the information that he was in the border area and was planning to commit some serious crime with the help of his accomplices.

  • An accomplice of Vicky Gounder, Gurpreet Singh’s name had also figured in a Tarn Taran gang war between accomplices of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and the Davinder Bambiha gang that had claimed the life of a gangster while leaving another seriously injured in August 2016.
