Modi recalls Gill’s service to nation

New Delhi/Chandigarh, May 26

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today condoled the death of “supercop” KPS Gill. “KPS Gill will be remembered for his service to our nation in the fields of policing & security. Pained by his demise. My condolences,” Modi tweeted.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said: “In his demise, our country has lost an outstanding public servant who played a remarkable role in controlling militancy in Punjab.”

In a message to Ajay Sahni, Gill’s son-in-law, Manmohan Singh said he joined many friends and admirers of Gill in sending deepest condolences.


Obituaries: 


Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today condoled the death of former state DGP KPS Gill, recalling his invaluable contribution to restoring peace and stability in the state.

In a condolence message, the CM said Gill continued to be emulated by police and security personnel around the country on solving the most complex of problems with grit and determination.

State BJP president and Union Minister Vijay Sampla said the “supercop” would be remembered for his steadfast fight against terrorism and restoration of peace and normalcy in Punjab.

DGP Suresh Arora said Gill led the Punjab Police at a time “when the state was most affected by the depredations of state-sponsored terrorism from across the border and successfully finished off the menace of terrorism and militancy from the state.”
