Building pressure on Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to act against former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia for allegedly patronising drug trade, a number of Congress MLAs today submitted a representation to the CM in Delhi.

A senior functionary in the Punjab Congress confirmed that in the jointly signed representation by nearly 40 MLAs, the legislators have requested the CM to initiate action against the brother-in-law of former Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal.

The campaign is spearheaded by an MLA from Majha. At least 50 MLAs were approached in the last few days to sign the representation. Three MLAs from Majha and one from Jalandhar were among those who reportedly met the CM over the issue.

The MLAs have been asserting that since the Congress, in its pre-election announcement, had promised to act against those involved in illicit drug trade, the party must act now.

Even during the Budget session, many Congress MLAs, including Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Kuljit Nagra, had took on the Badals over the matter. The Congress MLA had then stated in the house that the government was going soft on them, especially Majithia.
