Punjab Congress MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra today demanded that Akali leader Bikram Singh Majitha should apologise as his great-grandfather had allegedly thrown a dinner in honour of General Dyer after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919.

Nagra told mediapersons, “We are seeking an apology from the British, why should an apology not be sought from the families of those who had thrown a dinner in the honour of Dyer? Bikram Majithia is also a member of the House, he should also apologise for the sin committed by his great-grandfather  Sunder Singh Majithia.”

Nagra said Majithia’s great- grandfather was given the title of ‘Sir’ and “jagirs” for “such acts of loyalty. Can he answer why his family was given a huge patch of land in Gorakhpur?” Majithia said it showed the frustration on part of the Congress. “It is a plain lie. My great-grandfather was a great man who founded various institutions. If it were true, how could he have become SGPC chief within six months of the massacre?”
