Liquor seized; SAD councillor booked

SANGRUR: The Longowal police have registered a case against a SAD councillor of the Longowal Nagar Council after confiscating 125 boxes of smuggled liquor from his house.

The Longowal police have registered a case against a SAD councillor of the Longowal Nagar Council after confiscating 125 boxes of smuggled liquor from his house.

Accused Narinder Singh is former vice-president of the council. The police also seized some opium and poppy husk from his house.

Sunam DSP William Jeji said on a tip-off, SHO Vijay Kumar raided the councillor’s house at Jail Patti early in the morning and seized 125 boxes of Malta branch, smuggled from Haryana. Some cases were being loaded in a car, which had fake a number plate. The accused escaped after seeing the police, he said.

“We also seized a weighing machine used to sell opium from his house,” said Jeji.
