Justice Hemant Gupta, a judge of the Supreme Court, today appealed to the legal fraternity to contest at least 10 per cent cases of poor and needy persons free of cost.
He exhorted legal aid counsels to work with more dedication and sincerity. He said once a lawyer accepts a brief, he should do his best for the litigants. Fee should not be the dominant criteria in fighting for the cause of justice.
Justice Gupta was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a seven-storeyed building of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, which was constructed at a cost of Rs26.87 in four years.
Justice Surya Kant of SC stressed the need to provide timely, speedy and qualitative justice without incurring much expenses. He said 13 courts would start functioning in the fully air-conditioned complex.
