Johal’s torture charge false, claims Capt

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today rejected as "baseless" allegations that British citizen Jagtar Singh Johal alias Jaggi, an accused in the cases of targeted killings, was tortured by the Punjab Police.

The case of Scottish-born Johal was raised in the House of Commons yesterday following reports of his alleged "torture" in custody.

The CM said due process of law was being followed in the case. "The accused was not tortured," he said, adding that no unlawful method would be adopted during interrogation.— PTI

Two sent to 5-day remand

Mohali: The NIA special court on Wednesday sent two accused involved in the murder of RSS leader Ravinder Gosain (60) to five-day police remand. The NIA team produced 21-year-old Hardeep Singh, alias Shera, alias Pehalwan, from Amloh and 27-year-old Ramandeep, alias Canadian, alias Bagga, from Ludhiana in the court and sought 14-day remand. However, the court granted five-day remand. — TNS
