The police today claimed that the countrymade pistol used by gangster Kulbir Naruana in an assault on another inmate was thrown into the jail. The police said Naruana’s cousin Antarpreet Singh and his associate Charanjit Singh, alias Kalu, threw the pistol from Street Number VI of Bhangu road, which is located on the rear of the jail premises, two days ago.

Following heated arguments, Youth Akali Dal (YAD) activist Kulbir Naruana allegedly entered Gurdeep Singh’s cell on Thursday and fired at him with the pistol.

Superintendent of Police (SP), City, Desraj, said the police had arrested all accused in the case. Those held are Antarpreet Singh, Charanjit Singh, Harjinder Singh and Karamjit Kaur. The police are also interrogating Naruana about the SIM that he procured in the jail.

Desraj said Naruana feared that a rival gang was planning to kill him on the jail premises. So he contacted his cousin Antarpreet to secure a weapon. Antarpreet then sought help from his friend Charanjit of Gidderbaha and Kulbir’s old friend Harjinder of Model Town.

Harjinder, a criminal, handed over his .12 bore pistol to Antarpreet and Charanjit on April 12. Harjinder asked the duo to collect two rounds from Kulbir’s acquaintance Karamjit Kaur of Kotshamir village.

Antarpreet contacted Naruana on a SIM provided by Naruana’s cousin Harjiwan Singh. The SP said Antarpreet and Charanjit called Naruana on April 14 about the delivery of pistol.
