Canadian politician Ujjal Singh Dosanjh asserted that India needs to elect a composite, just and an egalitarian leader with strong ethical values in the General Election. He said this on the sidelines of the literature and cultural fest at Majha House here today.

On the rise of Jagmeet Singh in the Canadian politics, he said there was no impact of it on the Indian diaspora in Canada at this juncture. He said it was a big development that a person from visible minority was elected a leader of the New Democratic Party, which is one of the national parties in Canada.

On continuing migration of Indian students in general and from Punjab in particular, he said it was India’s loss and Canada’s gain. He lauded the efforts of the Indian and Pakistan governments to open the Kartarpur corridor through Dera Baba Nanak.

About the secessionist sentiments of a separate Khalistan state being expressed by a section of Indians, he said its impact on the communal harmony of the country could be curtailed by ignoring them. Ujjal said a few thousand people, supported by the ISI, could not destabilise India.
