Illicit liquor recovered in Moga, 2 held

The local police recovered more than 150 boxes of country liquor from various parts of the district during the past 24 hours and arrested two liquor smugglers, while two others managed to flee.

Police officials revealed that 124 boxes of country liquor meant for sale in Haryana was recovered from a Bolero pickup near Charik village on the outskirts of Moga city.

On a tip-off, a police party stopped a Bolero pickup on the Charik-Moga link road, but the driver of the pickup and his associate fled away leaving the vehicle behind.

During search, at least 74 boxes of “Sonfia” country liquor and 50 boxes of “Jugni” country liquor were recovered from it. All the bottles of liquor were bearing stickers of excise duty paid in Haryana.

A case under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act has been registered against unknown liquor smugglers at the Moga City-II police station.

In a second case, the local police recovered 25 cases of country liquor from the house of Parveen Singh at Saidok village in Nihalsinghwala subdivision of the district, yesterday. He has been arrested by the police.

A case under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act has been registered against the accused.

Another liquor smuggler Channa Singh has been arrested by the police at Kot Sadar Khan village in Dharamkot subdivision and 35 bottles of liquor meant for illegal sale were recovered from him. A case has been registered against the accused Channa Singh.
