Give ownership rights to BBMB lessees: Tewari

Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari today met Union Power Minister RK Singh in New Delhi for resolving the issue of ownership rights to the leaseholders of residential properties of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) in Nangal.

Tewari urged the minister that people residing in these properties for the past six-seven decades should be given the ownership rights as there was no point in keeping these properties continuously on lease.

Claiming that the leaseholders had not been able to repair or renovate these properties for decades, Tewari said the residents had been seeking ownership rights for quite some time now.

The MP said the leased properties were spread over several acres of land. The area was not being properly maintained since it had virtually turned into a no man’s land with neither the BBMB nor the local authorities taking any interest in its development.

RK Singh assured Tewari that he would get the matter examined and hoped that the issue might be resolved soon.

Jagdish Chander, MLA from Rajasthan, and Pawan Dewan, chairman, Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, also accompanied Tewari during his meeting with the minister. —TNS
