Sangrur, June 19

Two days after The Tribune highlighted the attempts of the local authorities to construct a garbage pit in the playground of Ranbir College in a news report “Garbage pit in college ground irks Sangrur residents”, the authorities on Tuesday demolished the under-construction pit.

The Nagar Council had started the construction of a garbage pit in the college ground without taking written permission from the college principal. When some locals approached her, she asked the authorities to stop the construction. When the authorities didn’t stop the construction, The Tribune highlighted the issue.

“After opposition from locals, we have stopped the construction and also demolished the pit,” said Sangrur SDM Avikesh Gupta. — TNS
