Gangster Jangbahadur Singh alias Janga, a resident of Rahal Chahal village, was arrested from Mohanpur village, 25 km from here, last late evening.

Members of his gang had allegedly fired at a police party on August 10 at Dhun Dhai Wala village. Jangbahadur’s accomplice Gagandeep Singh had been arrested on the spot with 300-gm heroin, while Gurbhej Singh Bheja and Kanwaljit Singh are on the run.

Tilak Raj, SP (Investigation), told the media here today that Jangbahadur was involved in several criminal cases.

The SP said the police, on a tip-off, put up a naka in the village. Jangbahadur was arrested with a .12-bore country-made pistol, three cartridges and a bike he had stolen from Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib, Amritsar.

Meanwhile, the Chohla Sahib police arrested snatchers Hardeep Singh of Kahlwan village and Sarabjit Singh of Thathian Mahantan village last evening. They had snatched a purse from Harpreet Kaur of Ruriwala village when she was going home from Chohla Sahib a week ago.
