Gangster Karamjit Singh allegedly assaulted warden Jagdev Singh inside the Bathinda Central Jail on Monday. The accused reportedly tore the uniform of the warden during the fight. When security personnel stepped in to save the official, the inmate clashed with them as well.

The Cantonment police have registered a case against the gangster. Jail Assistant Superintendent Joginder Singh, in his complaint, said Karamjit Singh of Patiala district was facing life term in a murder case. At noon on June 23, Karamjit sought permission to go to canteen, but he instead went towards barrack number 4. When the warden tried to stop him, he assaulted him and tore his uniform.

Karamjit Singh was among the four gangsters arrested by the police after a shootout at Jattana Kalan village in Mansa district on May 31.

Earlier in April, an extortion racket, which was being run by gangsters from inside the Bathinda Jail, was busted. Besides, in the past two years, more than 80 mobile phones with SIM cards were seized from the jail.
