Paramjit Singh (36), who allegedly killed his wife and two children at his house in Asal village on Thursday night, remains untraced.

The police said they had constituted various teams to locate him. A team of the canal department has also been asked to check areas around rivers and canals passing through the district as the police suspect the accused might have tried to commit suicide after killing his family. Expert divers were also roped in.

Paramjit, who was reportedly reeling under a financial crunch, had allegedly killed his wife Palwinder Kaur (32) with a sharp-edged weapon and strangulated his daughter Mankirat Kaur (13) and son Prabhjotnoor Singh (6). He later left the house on his bike in the wee hours. The family members were cremated today.

During preliminary investigations, it had come to fore that Paramjit used to consume drugs earlier, but then he became a baptised Sikh and was undergoing treatment from a hospital in Amritsar.
