Chandigarh, November 19

Several farmer organisations have open front against the police action against those involved in stubble burning.

The organisations, including BKU (Ugrahan) and BKU (Dakonda), have given a call to hold protests in front of DSP offices across the state on November 25.

In a press release, General Secretary of the BKU (Ugrahan) Sukhdev Singh Kokri said the government had failed to implement the National Green Tribunal’s order of providing stubble management machinery to farmers free of cost.

He said due to lack of support from the state government, a large number of farmers were left with no option but to burn the stubble. He demanded that the FIRs registered against farmers should be cancelled otherwise they would hold protest in front DSP offices on November 25. “If need arises, we may gherao the government offices as well,” he said.
