Muktsar, March 18

Despite the alleged role of former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh in the grant of pardon to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal today elevated his son Manjinder Singh Bittu as party’s organisational secretary.

Bittu was removed from the post of party’s Muktsar rural circle chief in August last year. A month later, he was fielded as the party’s zila parishad candidate from Udekaran zone.

Bittu is an aide of Muktsar MLA Kanwarjit Singh Rozy Barkandi, a loyalist of Sukhbir. During the SAD-BJP government, Bittu was the chairman of the Market Committee, Bariwala.

Political observers say since the Muktsar Assembly segment is part of the Ferozepur parliamentary constituency, the SAD chief has given this post to Bittu so that he can work hard for the party candidate.

“There are rumours that a member of the Badal family might contest from Ferozepur,” a local leader says.
