Chandigarh, June 21

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has asked the Rupnagar DC to give a detailed report on the assault on AAP MLA on Thursday.

Taking serious note of the incident, the Chief Minister made it clear that lawlessness would not be tolerated in the state, asking the DC to ensure a free and fair probe into the matter.

Even as the police arrested three persons allegedly involved in the attack on Amarjeet Singh Sandoa, MLA, Rupnagar, the Chief Minister asked the DGP to nab the remaining accused.

Two PSOs attached with the MLA have been transferred to the Police Lines for failing to protect him. The DGP has been directed to investigate their role in the entire episode.

Amarjeet’s gunman head constable Sukhdeep Singh was also injured in the attack. They were taken to the civil hospital in Sri Anandpur Sahib, from where Amarjeet was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, after he complained of chest pain.

Three relatives of Ajwinder Singh of Baihara village have been arrested. Ajwinder, along with another accused Bachittar Singh of Bhauwal village, are on the run.

Those arrested include Jaswinder Singh Goldy, Manjit Singh and Amarjit Singh, all residents of Baihara village. The police have impounded a black XUV and seized two guns.

Water Resource Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria said the department was probing if the incident had anything to do with the violation related to the mining wing of his department.

He said tossing of turbans was unfortunate.

The law and order situation is deteriorating day by day in Punjab.  Everyday mining officials are being targeted by the mafia. Even the elected representatives are not safe under the Congress regime — PS Chandumajra, Akali MP

Ajwinder and his supporters were heard saying they cannot give any more money to the AAP MLA. He has claimed that Sandoa had been extorting money from him. A judicial probe should be ordered — Daljeet Singh Cheema, SAD leader

Sandoa was attacked by goons of the mining mafia. If this is the plight of elected representatives, who are also provided security, imagine the fate of ordinary citizens — Sukhpal Khaira, AAP leader
