Having placed three staff members of the City police station, Phagwara, under suspension on Monday, the police are now probing who made and circulated the video of an addict woman consuming heroin in a room of the inquiry officers.

How the booked addict got the drugs inside the police station and also the material used to consume it is also under investigation.

In the video, probably shot inside one of the interrogation rooms, a newly-wed woman is seen taking heroin using a foil and a lit candle. As she does so, neither her inquiry officer ASI Balbir Singh nor woman Constable Kuldip Kaur, who had booked her in an NDPS case, stop her. The voice of Head Constable Hardip Singh is also heard.

The woman, Sandeep Kaur, hails from Bhullarai village in Phagwara. She was reportedly brought to the police station after confiscation of 3 gm of heroin from her on March 30 when an FIR under the NDPS Act was lodged against her. Though the woman had hired lawyer Kulvir Singh Jaswal, she did not contest the case and got convicted and sentenced on June 14 in the court of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Rajwant Kaur. The lawyer said, “The court granted her bail on April 26, but no one furnished the Rs 30,000 surety bond.”

Parminder Bhandal, SP, who is investigating the case, said, “I sent my teams to find her. There was no one at her parents’ place or her in-laws’ house. Her husband, too, is said to be an addict.”

Inspector Jatinder Singh, SHO, who got posted last month, said, “We searched our records and found her FIR. So we booked her investigating officer and woman constable first and then the head constable whose voice was heard in the video.”
