The police on Sunday claimed to have busted a medicated drug supply racket in Sadulshehar, 31 km from here, with the arrest of Rahul Aggarwal, son of a wholesale medicine trader in Jaipur.

Investigations indicated that Rahul had been supplying sedative tablets in Sriganganagar district and neighbouring Punjab belt through a gang headed by Balwant Singh, a registered medical practitioner. The Punjab Police have booked Balwant under the NDPS Act at least twice in the past. The drug peddlers were nabbed while transporting boxes in two cars and the vehicles were also impounded.

The police had recently seized 1.06 lakh Schedule “H” medicinal tablets by intercepting Balwant Singh of Nurpura, Paramjit Singh and Riyasat Ali of Gadarkhera and Rajwant Singh of Karadwala village. Also, Rs 2.25 lakh in cash was recovered from them. All these villages are connected to Abohar with state highway as well as a dozen link roads.

Interrogations indicated that supplies of the drugs were routed to Sriganganagar district through the bus of a private company, whose owner is based at Sikar. The bus driver, Sonu of Goluwala, has also been detained for questioning.
