Drug addict dies in Tarn Taran

Tarn Taran, July 18

Baljinder Singh (23), an addict of Bhuchar Kalan village in Tarn Taran district, was found dead in his bedroom on Wednesday morning purportedly due to the non-availability of drugs.

Jajbir Singh (20) an addict of the same village had died four days ago under similar circumstances.

Balwinder Singh Bhuchar, a relative of the deceased, said Baljinder was a heroin addict. He said the strictness against drugs by both the administration and other social organisations had hit the supply chain but due to the sudden non-availability, addicts were dying.

Inspector Manoj Kumar SHO Chabal said the steps taken by the administration had ensured that the drug supply line was blocked in the area. He said parents of addicts, rather than admitting them to de-addiction centres, were preferring to serve them wine-like items, because of which such incidents were happening.
