Doctors have confirmed that Inspector Parminder Bajwa, former Mehatpur SHO who had lodged an FIR against Congress Shahkot candidate Hardev S Laddi Sherowalia, is suffering from bipolar disorder. He was admitted in the de-addiction centre at the Civil Hospital here nine days ago. Doctors have sent their diagnosis and detailed medical report to the police department.

Dr Nirdosh Goyal, head of the department of psychiatry, said a board of doctors formed to assess his condition had concluded this after closely watching him and going through his medical history and recent incidents. “His mania stage is now quite controlled and so is his alcohol problem. He tested negative in dope test,” said the doctor. The team of doctors said he was eating and sleeping well. He has been kept in isolation but is allowed to meet his family. The doctors have provided him religious books and an audio player with gurbani tapes are played for him.

Commissioner of Police Parveen Sinha said, “The doctors have given an impression that he needs another two weeks of hospitalisation.” The report is likely to be the basis for cancellation of the FIR and subsequent departmental action against him.

Meanwhile, Bajwa has already applied for bail. His bail application will be heard on Wednesday. His judicial remand is till May 25. He had been arrested on May 11 from the courts complex for allegedly obstructing the court security staff from discharging their duty.
