A 200-sq-yd plot in Barkatpura village has become a bone of contention between SAD and Congress men. The plot is in the name of a SAD supporter, who has alleged that some Congress supporters from his village want to grab it to make a passage to their agricultural land.

“Since the formation of the Congress government, some of the party supporters have been trying to grab a plot of Mohammad Sabbir. Cops and the civil administration are also supporting the Congress men. When Sabbir refused to part with it, they got a false case registered against him under land grab charges. Now, Congress leaders, cops and the civil administration officers are openly threatening him of dire consequences if he does not give away his plot to them,” alleged advocate Parvez Akhtar, SAD leader and Block Samiti member from Malerkotla.

“Last month, cops, along with the civil administration, made two attempts to take over the plot despite a stay order of court. I have filed a case of contempt of court. The next hearing is on October 23,” alleged Sabbir.

Denying the allegation, Harkit Singh Dhaliwal, Block Development Panchayat Officer, Malerkotla-2, said, “Sabbir has encroached on common land, which is adjacent to the plot. We are trying to take possession of only the common land and not the entire plot.”

ASI Gurmej Singh, who is investigating the case, denied that he was under any political pressure.
