A day after the transfer of Moga SSP Raj Jit Singh, who was accused of patronising drug-tainted Inspector Inderjit Singh, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday summoned the drug-related case file of Raj Jit’s replacement Kanwaljit Singh Dhillon.

Capt Amarinder took the decision after the CM’s office briefed him about Dhillon. The latter is accused of cancelling a drug smuggling case registered against three junior cops in September 2013. They allegedly paid Rs 40 lakh for getting the job done. Dhillon had been summoned last year by the Punjab Bureau of Investigation during a probe.

A section of the ministers and senior Congress leaders said posting Dhillon in place of Raj Jit was an “own goal” by the government.

Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar said, “If action has been taken to remove Raj Jit Singh, the government will not allow any other tainted cop to continue on a responsible position.”
