Amritsar, July 18

The SGPC has sent its reply to the Union Home Ministry’s notice regarding its controversial move to appoint a chief secretary.

Talking to The Tribune, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said they sent the reply on July 15. He declined to share further details.

Sources said the SGPC had defended its move, contending that the executive committee had taken this decision as per norms.

It stated that the appointment was yet to be made and they had only given advertisements in newspapers so far. The Centre had sought a reply on the matter from the SGPC after a complaint was lodged by SAD (1920) president Ravi Inder Singh alleging that the SGPC was making the appointment in violation of the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925.
