Amritsar, September 21

A court here sentenced Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) president Santokh Singh to five years in jail for fraudulently transferring a piece of land in his name.

The Chief Khalsa Diwan is a century-old charitable-cum-educational body.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate also imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on Santokh Singh.

Advocate Ajay Vermani said the piece of land in question was transferred in the name of Santok Singh after the death of its owner Bishan Singh.

When Bishan Singh’s sons came to know about the facts, they filed a civil suit in 2005, he said.

Santokh Singh was later arrested and sent to judicial custody. PTI
