Union Cabinet minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today claimed that the farmers whose crops had suffered damage due to unseasonal rains would be awarded compensation. Farmers, who suffered 33 per cent crop loss, would also get compensation, she said.

“Farmers having suffered 33 per cent losses are also entitled to compensation, which is a huge relief to the farming community. Besides this, the Centre has increased compensation amount by 50 per cent so that maximum number of affected farmers can get assistance. Earlier only those farmers, who suffered 50 per cent loss, were entitled to compensation,” she said.

She said the Centre would soon send a survey team to the state to assess crop damage due to unseasonal rains. The affected farmers would get compensation on the basis of that report. Both the Centre and the state government were committed to ensure the welfare of farmers, she said.

Harimrat was here for sangat darshan in villages of Budhlada subdivision, including Beerewala Dogra, Reond Khurd, Reond Kalan, Addianwali, Ramgarh Shahpuria, Malakpur Bheemra, Udat Saidewala and Talabwala. She distributed grants of Rs 1.5 crore for developmental works in these villages.

Harsimrat held sangat darshans at a number of villages in Sardulgarh, Mansa and Budhlada subdivisions over the past three days.

“The Centre has awarded many big projects to the state to spur development. Roads will be improved at a cost of Rs 18,000 crore. Pension of none of the beneficiaries has been struck off albeit as per the High Court orders the verification of beneficiaries is being executed so that genuine beneficiaries do not suffer. Very soon, work will also begin under the MGNREGA,” she said.
