Ludhiana, October 21

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has opposed the plea of Lok Insaaf Party MLA Simarjit Singh Bains for making him party in the alleged Rs 1,144-crore City Centre scam.

Questioning the locus standi, the CM has asserted that he (Bains) was stranger to proceedings. He termed the application moved by Bains to be politically motivated and sought its dismissal from the court.

These assertions were made by the CM in the court of Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh here today. The CM’s written reply was filed by his lawyer Trilok Singh Sood.

The lawyers of Today Homes company and several other accused also filed a reply to the application moved by Bains for making him party in the case to oppose the closure report filed by the Vigilance Bureau.

Apparently, Bains intends to oppose the Vigilance Bureau’s closure report in the scam allegedly involving Capt Amarinder.

On August 19, the bureau had filed a closure report in the court of Sessions Judge on the basis of investigation carried out by it on the application of one of accused Chetan Gupta of New Delhi. The VB had claimed that nothing wrong was done and figures of loss to the state exchequer worth crores were “imaginary”. The case will come up for hearing on October 28. The court may take decision to make MLA party in the case or not.
