In view of the Congress’ poor performance in urban areas during the Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is all set to reallocate portfolios of his ministers. The state Cabinet has 18 members, including the Chief Minister.

A senior government functionary said the reallocation could happen any time this month. Ruling out the chances of dropping any minister or including any new face, sources said the change would be effected only in consultation with the party’s top brass.

Not attributing the move to the performance of certain ministers in the polls, sources said it was a long-pending exercise as the performance was being regularly evaluated since day one.

After the “friendly match” jibe by Navjot Singh Sidhu, the CM had hinted at changing his portfolio as the party had “fared badly in urban areas”, a fact contradicted by Sidhu.

The CM had stated that he had taken up the issue with party president Rahul Gandhi, who had asked him to wait till the elections.

Sources said in the event of Sidhu’s portfolio being changed, the CM was likely to retain Local Bodies, as done last year while taking back the portfolio of Environment from OP Soni.
