Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday flayed Sukhpal Khaira for appointing himself as the president of the newly formed Punjabi Ekta Party. In a statement, Garhshanker MLA Jai Singh Rori asked Khaira where his principles and philosophy on “swaraj” had gone. He said Khaira was resorting to such political manoeuvres only to remain relevant in politics. He questioned why Khaira was unwilling to quit as MLA from Bholath as he had won the seat on AAP ticket. Expel Valtoha from SAD: Cong leader

Jalandhar: Congress leader Nimisha Mehta has demanded the expulsion of SAD leader Virsa Singh Valtoha from his party for being a proclaimed offender (PO) and deceiving the public and the Election Commission by filing wrong affidavits. She alleged that as per official records, Virsa Singh Valtoha was still a PO and had not been acquitted in the case of killing of Dr Sudarshan Kumar Trehan in 1983. She said, “I will file a PIL in the High Court against Valtoha.” Valtoha maintained, “I was acquitted in the case, but I am somehow not able to place those documents.”

Wanted in various cases, 3 arrested

Sangrur: The  police arrested Karmjit Singh, his wife Prabhjit Kaur and their accomplice Jagdip Singh on the Maura-Nagra road on Friday night. A pistol and two cartridges were seized from them. Karmjit is involved in 12 cases, Prabhjit in an attempt-to-murder case and Jagdeep in three cases,” said SSP Dr Sandeep Garg. TNS

BSF detains 2 near border in Malout

Abohar: The BSF has detained Gurwinder Singh(28) and Tejinder Singh (40) of Enakhera village in Malout subdivision of Muktsar. They were nabbed as they were roaming on a scooter “suspiciously” near the Indo-Pakistan border outside Majhiwala village in Sriganganagar on Friday evening. OC
