Sources said someone saw the stubble fire and informed the tractor driver, who immediately detached the tractor and trailer. TNS

2 liquor vends looted

Ropar: Four persons looted over Rs 1 lakh from two liquor vends at gunpoint on Saturday night. Around 8.15 pm, four persons on two bikes reached a vend at Pathreri Jattan village and took away Rs 32,200 after pointing a gun towards the employees. They took away their mobile phones too. The second incident took place at Kandhola Tapprian village near Chamkaur Sahib within half an hour. Four persons,  in a similar way, looted  nearly Rs 75,000 from there. TNS

Shepherd found murdered

Fazilka: A shepherd, Kirpal Singh (21), of Chahlanwali village of the district was allegedly founded murdered near the Kheowali bridge on Saturday. The deceased’s brother Gurdev Singh said Kirpal had gone to graze goats on Friday morning. But he did not return home till late evening. The family members launched a hunt. His body, having injury marks on head, mouth and neck, was recovered near the Kheowali bridge, about 2 km away from his village, on Saturday morning. Some persons of a nearby village have been rounded up by the police. OC

One held with 650 habit-forming tablets 

Sangrur: The Crime Investigation Agency on Saturday arrested one person and seized 650 habit-forming tablets from him.  “We arrested Labh Singh from near Turbanjara on Saturday night and seized 650 habit-forming tablets. We have registered a case and started further investigations,” said ASI Basant Singh. TNS

Three killed in mishaps

Abohar: Jagdish Chander (22) and his niece Kiran (8) were killed when the tractor he was driving in his fields overturned at Chak 4KM village in Sriganganagar on Sunday morning. Ajay Kumar (18) of Saraswa died as a jeep allegedly hit him near Bhirani village in Hanumangarh on Saturday night. His body was handed over to the family after a postmortem examination on Sunday. OC
