Ludhiana: Judicial Magistrate Gurpreet Kaur on Tuesday extended the police remand of UK citizen Jagtar Singh Johal facing accusations of funding target killings of Hindu leaders in state for one day. Johal was produced before the court in connection with firing incident on RSS Shakha at Kidwai Nagar in Ludhiana in 2016. The court also ordered two-day police remand of Anil Kumar alias Kala, manager of a petrol pump owned by gangster Dharminder Singh Gugni. tns

DC row: CS appears before committee

Chandigarh: Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh on Tuesday appeared before the Privileges Committee of the Vidhan Sabha in connection with Moga DC Dilraj Singh’s spat with Congress MLA Darshan Brar. The committee, headed by party MLA Sukhjinder Randhawa, had summoned the Chief Secretary after the DC, during a previous hearing, allegedly failed to give a satisfactory reply to the complaint lodged by the Baghapurana MLA. Randhawa said the authorities concerned had been given 15 days to file a reply. TNS

Naib tehsildar held while taking bribe

Moga: A team of the Vigilance Bureau arrested naib tehsildar Surinder Kumar Pubby while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from an NRI at Ajitwal in Moga district on Tuesday evening. VB Director G Nageshwara Rao said a complaint was received at the head office that the naib tehsildar had demanded Rs 7 lakh from NRI Darshan Singh for mutation of property that the latter had inherited from his parents. Pubby is posted as naib tehsildar at Moga with additional charge of Ajitwal sub-tehsil. He went to Ajitwal after completing work here to receive the bribe, but was caught. TNS
