Bathinda, December 11

Taking suo motu notice of the alleged police torture of a 12-year-old boy here, the Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has asked SP (Investigation) Swaran Singh Khanna, Kotwali SHO Devinder Singh and ASIs Kulwinder Singh and Rajveer Singh to appear before it tomorrow.

The summons were sent to the office of Bathinda SSP Naveen Singla. The panel has also summoned victim’s mother Amandeep Kaur and shopkeeper Davinder Kumar, who had handed over the boy to the Kotwali police on the suspicion of theft.

The SP confirmed the development, stating that they would appear before the commission tomorrow.

Amandeep Kaur today met SSP Naveen Singla. She told him that she was not satisfied with the probe, alleging that the police were trying to save the SHO and an ASI. She said the police didn’t book ASI Kulwinder Singh under the SC/ST Act. When contacted, the SSP said the investigations were underway and they were examining the role of SHO Devinder Singh and ASI Rajveer Singh.

The police had yesterday booked ASI Kulwinder Singh of the Kotwali police station for assaulting the boy. Davinder Kumar, a local resident, and 20 unidentified persons were also booked.
