Amritsar, June 30

A delegation of Diocese of Jalandhar, led by Bishop Franco, today met Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and requested him to call upon people to maintain communal peace and harmony.

The visit came in the backdrop of instances of people from both faiths making slanderous remarks against each other’s religions.

They stated that Paramjit Singh of Jalandhar made objectionable remarks against Jesus Christ and a Christian woman against the Sikh religion.

The Jathedar said Sikhism stressed equal respect to all religions and even Sikh Gurus preached communal harmony and oneness of humanity. He said communal harmony should be maintained.

Bishop Franco thanked the Jathedar for his cooperation.

He said efforts were being made to make the Christian woman tender an apology for her objectionable remarks against Sikhism.

Both religious leaders resolved to maintain communal harmony and bury the hatchet.
