Abohar, December 24

Stray dogs targeted animals in the open wildlife sanctuary villages in Abohar sub-division today.

The Akhil Bhartiya Jeev Raksha Bishnoi Sabha criticised the state government for not taking adequate steps to protect blackbucks and other protected species.

Sabha activists said two blackbucks were found killed in Seetogunno, one each in Bishanpura and Raipura village. Two blue bulls were also killed and three wounded by stray dogs, villagers confirmed. Four blackbucks were found dead last Sunday near Mehrana Dhora village. Two blue bulls were injured. The dogs fled away after the villagers came out of their houses and chased them with lathis. The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change had notified the wildlife sanctuary in Abohar sub-division as an eco-sensitive zone.

Wildlife range officials Malkiat Singh and Ashok Kumar said the killed animals were buried and treatment to the injured ones has been provided. A report on the loss of animal life has been sent to the state headquarters. — OC
