Bike swept away, 2 feared drowned

PHAGWARA: Two youths on a motorcycle were swept away in the Chitti Bein near Chiherru on the Phagwara-Jalandhar highway on Thursday.

Two youths on a motorcycle were swept away in the Chitti Bein near Chiherru on the Phagwara-Jalandhar highway on Thursday. They have been identified as Sahil Bagga (23) of Ghumman village and Lovedeep (22) of Mehatiana village. They were going to Jalandhar after paying obeisance at a religious place under the Bein Bridge, but lost their balance and were washed away in the Chitti Bein.

Lakhbir Singh, SHO, Sadar Phagwara, said Balbir Kaur of Kot Kalan village informed the police about the incident. Former minister Joginder Singh Maan rushed to the site.

Satinder Singh, SSP, Kapurthala, said 12 divers were pressed into service to locate the youths. Search operation was on till the filing of the report. The SSP said their motorcycle was found, but the youths were feared drowned. A police party was sent to Diwali and Zandiali villages to locate them as the flow of the water was towards these villages.
