Bathinda student dies in wall collapse

BATHINDA: A student of a private school died on Thursday after a wall caved in at Mirpur Khurd village of Sardulgarh in Mansa district.

A student of a private school died on Thursday after a wall caved in at Mirpur Khurd village of Sardulgarh in Mansa district.

After visiting the spot, Sardulgarh DSP Sanjeev Goyal said the deceased, Gurpreet Singh, was a student of Class XI at BSD School of Mirpur Khurd. He had gone to the washroom along with his friend. After coming out, he sat close to the washroom wall. His friend told him that the wall was shaking, but before he could react, the wall collapsed, leading to his death.

Sardulgarh SHO Harvinder Singh said they talked to the family of the deceased and they said they didn’t want to initiate any legal action in this regard.

School owner Jagtar Singh said Gurpreet was a bright student. He said the walls of the bathroom had got weak following rainfall a few days ago. “When he went to the bathroom the wall came down suddenly, leading to his death,” he said. Sardulgarh SDM Lateef Ahmed also visited the school.
