The STF and counter intelligence nabbed a brother of a DSP-rank officer, his wife and an aide and recovered 1.057-kg heroin, Rs 1.02 lakh, 20 mobile phones, 10 watches and three cars from them.

The accused have been identified as Bathinda DSP Dilpreet Singh’s brother Harpreet Singh, 49, his wife Sarabjit Kaur, 35, and Dalbara Singh, 35.

Dilpreet Singh reportedly shares a strained relationship with his brother. Ludhiana STF incharge Harbans Singh said the couple had been into the trade for long as they were already facing over half a dozen smuggling cases, while their aide Dalbara, who had already been disowned by his family, too had a notorious past.

Harbans said: “We received a tip-off that the trio had bought heroin in huge quantity from Amritsar-based smugglers and they were on their way to deliver it to their clients in Ludhiana. Accordingly police party laid a trap and nabbed the trio with drugs from near J Block, BRS Nagar.”
