In a political “drama” that unfolded in Thatha Singh Wala village in Zira subdivision on Tuesday, Congress MLA Kulbir Singh got a dope test camp organised near the venue where SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was addressing his party workers.

The MLA had earlier challenged Sukhbir to undergo a dope test along with him. Today, he set up a stage waiting for Sukhbir. However, the latter avoided getting involved in the matter. Later, Kulbir himself went ahead and took the dope test, the report of which came out to be “negative”.

On Monday, Kulbir had approached the Health Minister and urged him to organise a dope test camp at this venue, following which the health authorities deputed a five-member team for the same.

While talking to mediapersons, Kulbir said he would wait for another month for Sukhbir to undergo a dope test after which he will start a tour of all 117 Assembly constituencies to start a signature camp exhorting him to do the same and prove his credentials as a “Baptised Sikh”. “I have proven myself by undergoing the test. If Sukhbir is clean and does not consume drugs, why is he running away from the test?” he questioned.

Apprehending a clash between Congress and Akali workers, over a thousand security personnel were deployed in the area. The police force also prevented Congress workers carrying black flags from reaching Sukhbir’s cavalcade.
