Chandigarh, November 22

Punjab Kala Parishad chairman Surjit Patar will honour revolutionary poet Minderpal Bhattal in Barnala tomorrow in recognition of his journey of more than four decades.

Minderpal’s Left-leaning poems were popular among students of colleges and universities in Malwa in 1970s. But he remained away from the limelight. His poems written in the aftermath of Partition and 1984 anti-Sikh riots, too, were taken highly by students. His poems — “Punjab Kaur” and “Panjo Rafujan” — about the gory tales of Partition had instantly attained the status of a classic in 1970s. — TNS
