An armed forces preparatory institute will come up in the district on the pattern of Mohali’s Maharaja Ranjit Singh Training Institute. Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has ordered the release of Rs 12.5 crore out of Rs 25 crore sanctioned for the institute. It will be set up at Bajwara village near Hoshiarpur city.

Rajya Sabha MP Ambika Soni, whose in-laws hail from Bajwara village, has donated her family’s more than 70 kanal land for the institute.

Informing this, local MLA and Industries and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora said, “The institute will benefit the youth of Doaba and Majha who want to make a career in the armed forces by undergoing training for NDA exam.”

Arora said the Chief Minister, who himself has served the nation, was commitment towards this cause. The institute is coming up on the pattern of two such institutes in Mohali. Arora said Ambika Soni, being the daughter-in-law of Bajwara village, had always contributed towards the development of the region.

Arora said with the institute, a long-pending demand of the youth of the area would be fulfilled.
