Newly-appointed Leader of Opposition in Punjab Sukhpal Khaira on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh saying his government was the rule of the ‘babus’.

Flanked by state party convener Bhagwant Mann, deputy convener Aman Arora and leaders of ally Lok Insaf Party besides his party MLAs, Khaira said AAP will oppose the government tooth and nail and “expose illegal mining, corruption and lack of democratic governance in Punjab”.

“The Chief Minister has visited the state only once after taking over. He is either cooling his heels in Chandigarh or on the hills somewhere. He has not even visited Mohali more than once,” said Khaira on his first interaction with the media since taking over as the Leader of Opposition.

He said the government was run by ‘babus’ who along with the advisers of the Chief Minister were making hay. “Instead of fulfilling promises made to farmers, these people were increasing their salary and perks,” Khaira charged.
