Muktsar, June 26

Demanding a cut in VAT on diesel and petrol, the SAD leaders held a protest against the state government outside the District Administrative Complex (DAC) here on Tuesday. Senior SAD leader-cum-Former Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa led the protest.

Though all key leaders of the party were present, SAD’s Muktsar district president-cum-MLA Kanwarjit Singh ‘Rozy Barkandi’ was conspicuous by his absence.

The SAD leaders handed over a memorandum to SDM Rajpal Singh at his office.

During the protest, Dhindsa targeted the Congress government on various issues, including corruption.

Fatehgarh Sahib: The district unit of SAD led by Swarn Singh Chanarthal organised a dharna for not reducing state taxes on fuel.

The Akali leaders said the state government had imposed the highest tax on fuel and earns Rs 700 crore from it. They urged the government to reduce half of the tax to make the fuel cheaper and help the farmers. They also urged the government to call a special Assembly session to pass a resolution to bring fuel under the GST ambit.

Later, they submitted a memorandum to the DC in this regard.

Barnala: The SAD leaders protested in front of the Barnala Deputy Commissioner’s office against taxes imposed on petrol and diesel. They announced to intensify their agitation if the state Congress government failed to reduce taxes.
