The Akal Takht on Thursday ex-communicated the maker of controversial film ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ from the panth.

The decision taken by five high priests on Thursday at Akal Takht secretariat. Akal Takht jathedar Gurbachan Singh pronounced the decision of clergy from the podium of the highest temporal seat.

Gurbachan Singh said despite repeated warnings film-maker Harinder Singh Sikka was adament to release the movie that has caused widespread outrage. So it was decided to boycott Sikka socially from all spheres.

The jathedar added that the members of SGPC's earlier sub-commmittee which had endorsed the film in 2016, too, would be summoned at the Akal Takht.

All earlier communications/circulars stood null and void, he said.

The Sikh community was appealed to stage protest if the film is released, but in a peaceful manner. The jathedar also issued a cautionary note for the cinema hall owners that they would be solely responsible for any loss to their property in case the film is screened.
