DGP Dinkar Gupta today placed ADCP IV of Ludhiana Commissionerate Pirthipal Singh under suspension after two men of Kotla Shahia village of Batala were allegedly kept in illegal custody at the Moti Nagar police station in Ludhiana, allegedly at the officer’s behest. The DGP also ordered a departmental inquiry against him.

Ludhiana Police Commissioner Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill told The Tribune that the DGP today suspended the ADCP for resorting to professional misconduct by keeping the two men in illegal detention.

“It is still unclear why the two men were kept at the police station and for how many days. Detaining them without any valid reason is not justified. So I recommended a disciplinary action against the ADCP,” Gill added.

Cabinet Minister Tript Rajinder Bajwa had got a call from a person who claimed to be a Congress worker that Kuldeep Singh and Hajura Singh of Kotla Shahia village were illegally kept at the Moti Nagar police station for the past four days at the behest of the ADCP IV, who belongs to their village.

Bajwa apprised the Police Commissioner of the matter, following which the latter rushed to the police station and freed the illegal detainees.
