Activists fail to disrupt SAD event

Muktsar: Members of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee could not succeed in their attempt to disrupt the political conferences of the SAD and SAD (Amritsar) on Sunday. Nearly 50 members of the committee had on Saturday started a protest march in the town, but they were stopped on the Ferozepur road. The police had blocked their way from both sides, where they lodged an overnight protest. The police gave them way after the conferences on Sunday. The committee accused the parties of turning religious events into political affairs. TNS

Pro-Khalistan slogans by SAD (A) 

Muktsar: Pro-Khalistan slogans were raised at the political conference of the SAD (A), which was organised on the Bhai Mastan Singh road in the town. Besides, hoardings and flags carrying pro-Khalistan messages were also put up there. In his speech, Simranjit Singh Mann, president, SAD (A), said: “Other parties do not want us to raise issues related to the state. They always defame us. However, we will not let this happen.” To prevent any law and order problem, a large number of security personnel were deployed near the venue. TNS

Liquor vends open

Despite the district magistrate’s orders of keeping liquor vends shut till 5 pm in Muktsar on Sunday, the rule was flouted with impunity. One such vend was open opposite the local bus stand. People were seen buying liquor even around 12 noon.

Sukhbir recites ‘path’

SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was seen reciting ‘path’ while sitting on the stage. After interacting with the party leaders sitting beside him, he kept reciting ‘path’. His lips were seen moving, which made everyone curious.

All-men show

Except for Bibi Jagir Kaur, president, SAD women wing, neither any other women leader, nor any female worker was present. It was virtually all-men show of strength.
