Abohar, September 11

The Abohar Municipal Council Safai Sewak Union today agreed to call off their month-long strike that had triggered a blame game between the BJP, which is in majority in the council, and the Congress.

While BJP state president Shwet Malik and legislator Arun Narang had blamed the state government, Congress leader Sandeep Jakhar had alleged that the BJP had ruined the council in the past nine years of its rule.

City Congress president Mohan Lal Thatai, accompanied by councillors Ganesh Sablania, Ganpat Ram, Narinder Verma, Gurman Singh Sidhu, Mahipal Verma, Naresh Wadhwa, Suman Narula and Radha Bathla, approached the Union leaders and persuaded them to accept the offer made by the administration of releasing two-month salary immediately. They assured to arrange salary for rest of the three months soon, as the council was not in a position to arrange dues worth Rs 2.25 crore today. The union accepted it and assured to resume sanitation duties on Thursday. — OC
