Former district president of the AAP and RTI activist Suresh Sharma suffered bullet injuries after an unidentified person fired at him this evening.

The incident took place around 6.30 pm when Sharma was at his furniture shop in the main market of Chheharta. A youth came and fired four bullets, of which three hit him in the lower part of the body.

The attacker fled after firing. Sharma was rushed to a private hospital. His family members stated that his condition was stable.

The police said he was not in a condition to record his statement. The police were collecting the CCTV footage from Sharma’s shop and nearby establishments.

Sharma is an active RTI activist, who has often flagged embezzlement in various departments. After joining AAP a few years back, Sharma targeted political parties and politicians on various issues. He resigned from post of district president of AAP after Sukhpal Khaira was removed from post of the Leader of Opposition. He is now associated with the Khaira group.

“I condemn the murderous attack on our party colleague and PAC member Suresh Sharma. This speaks of total breakdown of law and order in Punjab. It appears there is no security to the life of ordinary people in Punjab. We demand immediate arrest of the culprits,” Khaira said.

In a statement, Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema condemned the attack on Suresh Sharma. Cheema said the law and order situation in the state had gone from bad to worse. He demanded to arrest of the attackers as early as possible.
